The US military specification MIL-C-7515 (Cord, Nylon, Block Braided) defines manufacturing requirements for medium- and high-strength nylon (polyamide) cordage. It is mainly used by armed forces for cargo parachuting, extraction lines and the bracing of heavy structures. MIL-C-7515 cord is a safety-critical component designed to withstand high dynamic loads during the deployment of air-transported cargo.
Its braided construction provides good dimensional stability under load while retaining the natural elasticity of nylon, which helps dissipate energy during sudden loading.
Technical properties and benefits of MIL-C-7515
High-strength construction: Available in several types, with breaking loads ranging from several hundred kilograms to more than one tonne, for applications beyond the capacity of lighter tactical cords. Elastic shock absorption: Military-grade polyamide helps absorb sudden loads during the opening of heavy cargo parachutes, reducing the risk of damage to secured equipment. Environmental resistance: The material is resistant to rot, hydrocarbons such as oils and kerosene, and mould, and is stabilized against ultraviolet radiation for long-term storage or deployment. Handling: The construction is designed to limit twisting around its own axis, helping ensure smooth deployment from extraction bags.
MIL-C-7515 vs MIL-C-5040
Both specifications are used in parachuting applications and use nylon, but they address different load ranges. MIL-C-5040 covers lighter, smaller-diameter cord used for personnel parachutes, survival equipment and individual lashing. MIL-C-7515 is intended for heavier equipment, including cargo-parachute extraction lines and securing pallets aboard military aircraft.
MIL-C-7515 vs MIL-DTL-24050
MIL-C-7515 is intended for dynamic aerospace loads, whereas MIL-DTL-24050 covers heavy-duty nylon double-braided rope used for naval mooring, ocean towing and dock operations.
Certification and defence supply requirements
MIL-C-7515 cordage is intended for applications requiring controlled construction and traceability. Our regulatory braids and ropes are available in standard colours such as natural white, Olive Drab and black and can be supplied with a certificate of conformity. They are suitable for applications requiring NATO Stock Numbers (NSN).
