The MIL-R-1688 specification covers three-strand twisted nylon rope for military and industrial applications.
Nylon construction provides substantial elasticity, making the rope suitable for applications involving repeated dynamic loading.
Technical characteristics
Three-strand twisted construction: Provides good grip, straightforward field splicing and tolerance to rough handling. Nylon elasticity: Helps absorb sudden tensile loads and reduce shock at anchoring points. Handling: Traditional laid-rope construction is well suited to knots and eye splices. Environmental durability: Nylon provides useful resistance to many oils and common operating environments.
Typical applications
secondary mooring,
light towing,
general rigging,
climbing and descent applications where required by the programme,
Both use nylon, but MIL-R-1688 uses a traditional three-strand construction while MIL-DTL-24050 uses double braid. Double braid provides a smoother, more balanced structure; three-strand rope remains easier to splice in the field.
