MIL-T-87130 Type I, II, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI para-aramid webbing
The MIL-T-87130 specification covers high-performance textile tape/webbing made from para-aramid fibres for aerospace, defence and other demanding applications.
Compared with conventional nylon or polyester webbing, para-aramid provides high tensile strength, low elongation and strong heat resistance at low mass.
Technical characteristics
High strength-to-weight ratio: Para-aramid provides high tensile performance for weight-sensitive systems. Low elongation: Useful for applications where dimensional stability under load is required. Heat resistance: Para-aramid does not melt like many thermoplastic fibres and retains useful performance in elevated-temperature environments. Abrasion and cut resistance: Suitable for demanding reinforcement and restraint applications.
MIL-T-5608 uses nylon and provides more elastic energy absorption. MIL-T-87130 para-aramid webbing is selected where lower elongation, high strength-to-weight ratio and higher heat resistance are required.
MIL-T-5661 covers cotton tape, including controlled-break applications. MIL-T-87130 is intended for high-strength retention and reinforcement applications.
Typical applications
Depending on the programme, para-aramid webbing can be used for high-strength restraint, protective textile assemblies, aerospace equipment and parachute-related systems.
