MIL-T-5608 / PIA-W-5608 Type I, II, III, IV, V, VI nylon parachute tape

The MIL-T-5608 specification, also encountered as MIL-DTL-5608 and PIA-W-5608 references, covers high-tenacity nylon textile tape used primarily in parachute construction and reinforcement.
Made from Nylon 6.6, these tapes are intended for aerospace, defence and airborne safety applications where low weight, controlled elongation and repeatable weaving are important.

Technical characteristics

Defined breaking loads: Different types provide different strength ranges for parachute and deployment requirements.
Flat woven construction: Suited to sewing directly onto parachute canopies and textile assemblies.
Finishes: Natural or treated finishes can be specified according to dimensional stability, abrasion and environmental requirements.

MIL-T-5608 vs MIL-T-5038

MIL-T-5608 is used as a structural parachute tape, while MIL-T-5038 is typically used as a lighter binding or reinforcement tape.

MIL-T-5608 vs MIL-W-5625

MIL-W-5625 covers tubular nylon webbing. MIL-T-5608 uses a flat construction intended for sewing and surface reinforcement.

MIL-T-5608 vs MIL-W-4088

MIL-W-4088 is selected for heavier load applications such as harness and cargo restraint, whereas MIL-T-5608 is focused on parachute tape and canopy-related applications.
