MIL-T-5038 Type II, III, IV, V, VI nylon tape and webbing

What is MIL-T-5038 webbing?

The MIL-T-5038 specification covers woven nylon (polyamide 6.6) tape and webbing used in military, aerospace and technical textile applications.

Technical characteristics

The specification includes several types and widths for different load and assembly requirements.
Material: High-tenacity nylon provides a strong strength-to-weight ratio and good abrasion resistance.
Low bulk: Thin constructions are suited to sewing, edging and adjustable hardware.
Environmental durability: Nylon provides useful resistance to repeated flexing and many common operating conditions.
Optional finishes: Water-repellent, IRR or flame-performance treatments can be specified when required by the programme.

Typical applications

Aerospace and parachuting: Reinforcement tapes, parachute assemblies, survival equipment and light cargo restraint.
Tactical equipment: Protective vests, MOLLE-compatible assemblies, packs, belts and equipment pouches.
Industrial applications: Textile reinforcement and technical protection where a lightweight woven tape is required.

MIL-T-5038 compared with other webbing specifications

MIL-T-5038 is generally used as a lightweight tape or webbing, while heavier specifications such as MIL-W-4088 are selected for substantially higher load requirements.
