MIL-C-87129 Type I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X aramid braided cord

The MIL-C-87129 specification covers coreless braided cord made from aramid fibres for military, parachute and aerospace applications. Aramid construction provides a high strength-to-weight ratio and low elongation compared with conventional nylon cordage.
The MIL-C-87129 reference is also encountered alongside later industry documents such as PIA-C-87129.

Construction

MIL-C-87129 cord is made from braided aramid fibres, commonly associated with materials such as Kevlar®.
Key characteristics include:

  • high tensile strength,
  • low elongation under load,
  • heat resistance,
  • low linear mass,
  • dimensional stability in demanding environments.
The coreless construction distributes load through the braided structure without a separate central core.

    Applications

    Typical uses include:

  • military parachute systems,
  • cargo parachutes,
  • aerospace equipment,
  • recovery systems,
  • space applications,
  • safety systems,
  • high-temperature industrial applications.

    MIL-C-87129 vs MIL-C-7515

MIL-C-87129 uses low-elongation aramid fibres for applications where strength-to-weight ratio and dimensional stability are important. MIL-C-7515 covers nylon braided cord for applications where different dynamic behaviour is required.
