The MIL-R-24050 specification, also associated with the MIL-DTL-24050 designation, covers high-tenacity nylon double-braid rope for demanding marine and military applications.
Construction and performance
Double-braid construction: A braided core is protected by a braided cover, providing a smooth and balanced rope structure. Dynamic-load absorption: Nylon elasticity allows the rope to absorb shock loads associated with mooring, towing and wave movement. Low tendency to rotate: Double-braid construction helps reduce twist under load compared with conventional laid rope. Marine durability: Material selection and finishing are intended to improve abrasion resistance and durability in marine service.
MIL-R-24050 compared with other military rope specifications
MIL-R-24050 uses nylon and is suited to applications where elasticity and shock absorption are important. MIL-DTL-24677 uses polyester and is suited to applications where lower elongation is preferred.
MIL-R-1688 covers laid nylon rope, while MIL-R-24050 uses a double-braid construction that provides a smoother surface and different handling characteristics.
