A torsion spring, also known as a return spring, is a coil spring that can store a large amount of energy over a significant stroke.
This spring has many specific advantages:
- The stored energy is released almost uniformly throughout the entire stroke.
- Running can be extremely important.
- It takes up very little space because the metal strip winds around itself.
They are used in friction-based mechanisms, safety systems (seat belts, fall arrest harnesses), and everyday tools (electric cable reels, tape measures, etc.)
