The French aerospace specification AIR 9205 defines manufacturing requirements for technical safety webbing. References AIR 9205 R908 and R909 cover high-tenacity polyester webbing.
Polyester is selected for applications requiring low moisture uptake, dimensional stability and good outdoor durability.
Technical advantages of polyester webbing
UV resistance: Polyester is well suited to long-term outdoor exposure compared with more UV-sensitive fibres. Low moisture uptake: The webbing maintains stable dimensions and mass in wet environments. Chemical resistance: Polyester offers useful resistance to many oils, fuels and maintenance chemicals encountered in technical environments. Controlled elongation: Polyester provides lower stretch than nylon, helping maintain more stable restraint tension.
MIL-W-4088 nylon webbing is selected where greater dynamic energy absorption is required. AIR 9205 R908/R909 polyester webbing is more appropriate where low elongation and outdoor stability are priorities.

Cotton and linen references address different handling, heat and material requirements. Polyester provides a synthetic option for outdoor and chemically demanding applications.
Conformity
R908 and R909 correspond to defined widths and minimum breaking-load requirements. Production can be supplied with the conformity and traceability documentation required by the customer programme.
