The French aerospace specification AIR 9205 covers the strength, weaving and quality requirements of safety-related technical textiles. References AIR 9205 R6111 to R6608 identify high-tenacity polyamide (nylon 6.6) webbing in a wide range of widths and breaking-load classes.
These references are used where dynamic load absorption, abrasion resistance and a high strength-to-weight ratio are important.
Mechanical characteristics
Controlled elastic elongation: Polyamide can absorb energy under sudden or dynamic loading, making it suitable for parachute and restraint applications. Abrasion resistance: Nylon 6.6 is well suited to repeated passage through buckles and contact with loaded edges. Strength-to-weight ratio: The range covers multiple geometries and load classes for weight-sensitive aerospace applications.
Both families cover high-strength nylon/polyamide webbing used in demanding aerospace and defence applications. The applicable reference depends on the programme and required specification.
Polyamide is selected where dynamic energy absorption is important, while polyester is often selected where lower elongation and improved outdoor dimensional stability are required.
Conformity
Each AIR 9205 reference corresponds to defined dimensions and breaking-load requirements. Production can be supplied with the conformity documentation and lot traceability required by the customer programme.
