The French aerospace specification AIR 9205 covers technical textile products for state, military and aerospace applications. Within this specification, references AIR 9205 R222 to R360 identify cotton tape/webbing products with defined widths, thicknesses and breaking loads.
Cotton continues to be specified for applications where natural-fibre behaviour is required.
Technical characteristics of AIR 9205 cotton products
Natural low-static behaviour: Cotton generates less static electricity through friction than many synthetic fibres, which can be useful in sensitive environments. Heat behaviour without melting: Cotton chars rather than melting when exposed to high heat. Knot holding and friction: The natural surface of cotton provides useful grip for knots and adjustment systems. Soft contact surface: Cotton can be selected where contact with painted or composite surfaces must be gentle.
Both product families include cotton webbing used in military applications. The appropriate reference depends on the programme specification, dimensions and required breaking load.
Traceability and dimensional control
Each AIR 9205 reference defines its own geometry and mechanical requirements. Production can be supplied with customer-required conformity documentation and lot traceability.
